On 14th September 2021, the first official online discussion (owing to the pandemic situation) was carried out involving the Project Co-lead Stakeholders from BUET, Bangladesh with the Deputy Secretary of Ship Recycling (Mr. Md Mizanur Rahman) under the Ministry of Industries, the sole authority governing the rules and jurisdiction of the Ship Recycling industry. This meeting discussed on the significance of this research project, the aims, and objectives, the way of working, and the possible outcomes this project is intending to accumulate at the end of the project duration.


The Deputy Secretary assured of any support from the ministry's end to be provided to this research project as and when required in terms of the provision of accessing the ship recycling yards and obtaining necessary data or findings for evaluation and research.

On 27th December 2021, the first visit as a part of this project job description was made to a safety agency, HR Ship Management Ltd., an organization responsible for providing consultancy services to 6 ship recycling yards in Bangladesh in order to improve the infrastructure, management, and occupational health and safety standards of the yards. The support staff was very cordial and the CEO himself, retired Marine Engineer Captain Sirazul Mawla assisted with all sorts of support and information to one of the Project's Research Assistant Shaumik Sharif Dipto.


Captain Mawla also introduced Shaumik to the other stakeholders of his organization and carried out an essential practical discussion on the ongoing industrial practices amongst the ship recycling yards in Bangladesh.
